Porsche Repair: Porsche Cayenne Transmission, porsche cayenne, porsche shop

Question
QUESTION: I have a problem on a 2004 Cayenne with the tiptronic transmission.  Hard downshifting (clunks) and the manual shifter won't upshift.  Local Posche dealer after two weeks of fussing cant fix it and wants to install a new transmission.  Question - he wants $6600 - seems way high is he recouping his "fussing".  Went to the dealer as an expert - claims hes not charging for his lost time but I wonder?

ANSWER: $6600 for a 04 Cayenne transmission sounds about right, but if you went to a independent Porsche shop you could probably get a better price on the LAbor. IT's 9.5 - 10.5 hours book time to replace. Call another Porsche dealer and ask how much to change the transmission.

Seems odd, if shifts normal in Auto mode, but not in manual mode. Any transmission faults? Seems more electronic.

QUESTION: Replaced/reprogrammed the controller - replaced the "valve Box"  don't know what that is  - neither fix worked.

Hard down (Clunk 5-4 & 4-3 & 3-2) console wont upshift 2-3, 3-4, 4-5

goofy part steering shifters work fine

My bad - reported it while still under warranty and dealer couldn't find problem - slowly kept getting worse to point, 100k miles, that driving in stop/go traffic will give you a headache with the clunking

Answer
I don't think I have a solution for you. You may want to press the issue with your dealership the fact that it has been ongoing for X time before the warranty expired and that you have all of the documentation to support the work before the warranty expired, that you will get your attorney involved if need be to get this issue resolved. That may get them to be a little more responsive.
