Porsche Repair: 1987 Porche 944, oil pressure gauge, porche 944

Question
QUESTION: I am about to buy a 1987 944 that has been sitting for about 8 years. Its in good condition with that in mind what are the odds of getting the thing running without a complete engine overhaul or rebuild

ANSWER: It depends on the milage, but I know of several 944's with >250K on them still running.
Plan on the following
Compression check to make sure the engine is good.
Tuneup : Plugs, Cap, Rotor, Belts, Filters
Fluids: BRake Fluid, Coolant, Transmission
Timing Belt & Balance shaft belts with related seals, and thew water pump when your doing the TB.

QUESTION: Thanks,
Is there a way to pump oil through the motor prior to turning the engine over or is it needed.

Answer
Sure. Pull the oil pressure gauge and connect a oil pressurization kit used for when replacing new lifters. It looks like a arisol can, but  with oil init. Check you local parts store. (NOT REALLY NEEDED)

You can also just pull you spark plugs and crank the ENGINE OVER UNTIL YOU GET OIL PRESSURE. i WOULD CHANGE THE OIL FIRST TOO.
