RV Repair: Dometic fridge freezing, florescent lights, air flow

Question
We have a 1995 Wilderness trailer and our dometic fridge is freezing in lower part of the fridge. Our pop gets frozen and vegetables as well. the freezer works fine. We have replaced the thermosat but it is still doing the same thing. It cost $30 for the new part and $150 for labor and it still freezes at the lower portion of the fridge. We operate on 120 volt electrical because I had problems with the flame going out when I used propane.

Answer
Bob, What model refer do you have? Does this have the buttons on top and if so does it also have settings for the temp? Try opening up the burner and checking that it is clear of debris. After that turn it to gas and if you know the refer is cold enough then adjust the level to the hottest and go out and see if the flame is still going. If it is then the T-Stat is calling for the heat and very well could be bad. Another question is, do you have any florescent lights in the coach? If so you may be getting some ac ripple and that can cause trouble for you. Now is it freezing to the point of ice forming or should I say filling the rear fins? Frost is caused by one thing and that is air flow. Even in the freezer you won't have frost as long as air doesn't get in there. So check the door gaskets to see that they seal good. If all this seems a bit much and this is in fact the refer I described then you can replace the main power board with a Dinosaur "Micro P-711" board that has a control built on the board for more adjustment of the temp in the refer. I hope this helps, Bill
