RV Repair: A/C issues, duo therm, directional vents

Question
QUESTION: I purchased a 2001 Starcraft truck camper during the winter. Since I live in Wisconsin I did not try the air conditioner. Now that the warmer months are getting here and it finally got above 70 degrees today I thought I would try my A/C unit. I turned it on and the air blows in the wrong direction. I have owned many RV's and all of them blew out the directional vents facing front and back along the ceiling, and the air would be pulled in the bottom through the air filter. This unit blows straight down through the filter and pulls the air in through the vents at the ceiling. The compressor comes on when I turn the control for more cooling. I removed the shroud and checked the wiring and it is correct. The squirrel cage is on the motor correctly or I wouldn't get good air flow so even if I could reverse the motor I would need to turn the squirrel cage around. Have you ever seen this before? Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John Pauley

ANSWER: John, The air conditioners all blow out one end and collect from the other end. I have never seen any that do what you are saying. Possibly the shroud is the wrong one. If you can let me know what brand ac you have I can get the particulars for it. I would need brand and model if possible. Thanks, Bill

QUESTION: The unit is a Duo-Therm by Dometic, 579 Series BRISK AIR Model# 991731647   57915-522C. The air is blowing out the intake filter and pulling air in the adjustable directional vents. Never saw that before. Anymore information needed, just ask.

Thanks,
John

Answer
John, That is definitely strange. It should not be doing that at all. This model has manual controls I am assuming and they are underneath or facing down. Could it be that the blower wheel is just on the wrong way? If not could they have the motor in backwards? You can go on top and check to see what way the air up there is flowing across the evaporator. That air should be pushed out from the inside. Coleman is the opposite but dometic push the air. Let me know what you find there and maybe you can e mail me a few pictures of the motor area to see if I can notice what is wrong. My e mail address is hunter42558@sbcglobal.net. I hope this helps, Bill
