RV Repair: camper batt vs. generator, transfer switch, gulfstream

Question
I have a 2000 Innsbruck by Gulfstream 27' tow behind.  The problem I am having is that when I plug in my generator the things that normally runs off the battery do not switch over to the generator.  I can plug in my toaster and it draws on the generator but the interior lights are dim, the furnace and the radio don't work unless I charge the camper battery with the alt on the pickup.  The gen is not charging the battery either.  Is there a transfer switch on these things?  If so where would I start to look for it?  If not can you send me in the right direction?  thanks Chris

Answer
Chris, When you plug in there is a converter in the coach that should charge the batteries as well as run the 12 volt in the coach. If you are not getting any charge from it at all whether plugged in to shore power or the generator then I would say that your converter is bad and needs replaced. You can check to make sure there is 110 power to the plug and then see if 12 volt power is coming out. This will tell you what is wrong. Thanks, Bill
