RV Repair: 1999 springdale lite camper, drift pin, motor assembly

we purchased a 1999 springdale lite camper with a slide out.the slide out doesn't work right.it will slide out real slow but not all the way.when we try to get it back in we have to push it back.we looked at the motor and the rod that moves back and forth doesn't stay in the slot it moves around.can this problem be fixed or do we need to buy a new motor assembly.thank you jill

Jill, I am not real clear as to what rod you are talking about. If it is the connecting rod there should be something that holds it in place, such as a drift pin or something like that. The slides are usually driven with gears if they are a motor drive and something needs to keep everything moving. I hope this makes sense to you and is helpful.
