RV Repair: rv a/c on an inverter, air cond, coffee pot

Question
QUESTION: 2008 Keystone Copper Canyon 5th wheel.  Air is a duo-therm 15k.  I installed an inverter (2kw,4kw surge mod sign wave) to run tv,satellite, coffee pot and microwave when stopping along the road. Works great! Want to install a second inverter to run the air conditioning. Have my eyes on a 3kw-6kw surge. The air has a 20a breaker so it's max pull and run should be below 2400w but I need to know if the air cond. will run with out a problem on modified sine or should I get a pure sine wave for it.   Thank you

ANSWER: Gene, This is a very good question and one that I will look into for you by calling dometic and asking them personally. If you want to know just what they say please send another follow up question and I will have that answer for you. Thanks, Bill

QUESTION: Bill, I sure would appreciate hearing what they have to say.. and thank you much for pursuing it.

Answer
Gene, Sorry about the delay. I had computer trouble and had to have it repaired. Anyway I talked to the tech and he said that as long as you realize the consumption that it will be pulling which is about 1500 watts and are prepared for that you can run this on inverted power, a pure sine wave, then it will be fine. He did say that if this is on a motorhome you will want to amp up the alternator with about as big as you can go so the batteries have enough. Thanks again, Bill
