RV Repair: Replacement Door, color texture, v store

Question
My entry door was damaged by high winds and needs replacing.  Is this a job I can do at home?  I have a 2002 Fleetwood Jamboree (23').

Answer
Ebb, First thing I should tell you is that replacing the door is pretty expensive unless they made it a standard size, which very few do that just so they are able to sell the doors when things like what happened to you end up happening. I think I would look at the door and see if all the parts are there and that the skin is ok. Even if you need to replace the skin you might want to go that way because as you will find out they are pretty expensive to buy new. The reason is that it will have to be specially made for you and they charge alot to do that. If everything is there you can take the screws out that hold the frame to the main body and then you will be able to pull out the wood and replace it, and then all you have to do is put it back together. When you buy a door, and if this is what you are planning, you will need to take the frame off as well. They come as 1 unit. It will be screwed all the way around the outside and you will need to take it off before ordering so that you can determine the hole size. That is the size they will ask you for and whether or not it is radiused. They will also want to know what side the hinge is on, the color, texture, and what style lock you have. That way they can cut out for it so you don't have to. It is pretty easy to get them off and when you install the new one you will want to buy a roll of putty tape from a R.V. store and apply at least 1 layer to the door frame where it will meet the wall. Then all you need to do is screw it in and remove the excess putty tape from around the outside. This can be done with a plastic scraper or even a screwdriver. I hope that this has been helpful to you but if you need anymore information feel free to ask again and I will do my best to help you. Thanks, Bill
