RV Repair: Generac RV generator, gasoline generator, rv generator

Question
I have a Generac 5.5 gasoline generator in my RV.  It always starts right up and runs smooth, but recently, when I hit the switch to shut it down, it tries to keep on running, surging, and banging.  Any ideas as to what's wrong.

Bob, Without seeing it myself I can only give you my best guess, and that is what this is. It sounds to me like something in the electronics is failing. Possibly the ground or whatever they are using in that model to stop it. How long has it been since the last tune up? Also the oil needs changed every 100 hours and when it is in need of changing I have seen generators do lots of weird things. I hope this helps you in locating the trouble. Thanks, Bill
