RV Repair: Magnetek converter, output voltage, ac power

Question
I have a Magnetek converter (6300 series) and I recently hooked up a small generator to run my AC power. The converter started humming really loud and then the TV started to smoke! The lights were really bright and then everything shut off after about 10 minutes. I let things cool down and tried it again. Same thing.
When I hooked it up to the house current again, everything was fine. There was no noise from the converter with the house hook-up.
Is my gen messed up or what is going on. Can I get a regulator (?) to put between my gen and trailer.

Any help is appreciated.

Answer
WOW
Bob..Generators are frequency controlled "ie" RPM dependent.
The higher the rpm the higher the voltage.
You need to check the output voltage of the Gen. running at speed.
That rascal is putting out way to much voltage.
Remember all wires contain smoke..and your job is to not let the smoke out.
