RV Repair: Gulfstream on Spartan chassis, spartan chassis, cummins diesel

Question
Thom,
I have a 1995 Gulfstream on a Spartan chassis with a Cummins diesel and Allison six speed electronic automatic trans. Now that my batteries are hooked up I am getting juice through the dash and fuel pump but the starter won't engage. It ran fine when I last parked it. I may have inadvertently shut it off in drive and set the air brake. My question is how do I make sure it is in neutral if it won't fire up and do you know anything about the solenoid in the battery compartment on the driver's side? Does the cable coming off the solenoid go to a positive or negative terminal.(the cable going INTO the solenoid comes through the wall from the other side of the chassis.Any help will be appreciated.

I'm  not sure that shutting the rig down in gear has any negative effect on an Allison electronic, as long as it has power it can still select gears. As far as the cable to the solenoid goes, it will be a positive. I've never known them to "switch" a negative cable. Go back to the part about the batteries being "hooked up"?  Many problems and their solutions start and end right there.
Thanks
