RV Repair: water damage on slideout floor, holding tanks, belly pan

Question
I bought a 1999 Fleetwood Wilderness 5th Whl sight unseen. I found that the couch/table slideout on the passenger side and the bed slideout at driver's side front had "dry rot" water damage in the plywood at the ends. The plywood had house wrap covering it. I cut the rotten part out and replaced it then glued and screwed a layer of plywood over the patch to secure it on the liv rm slide out. How do I remove the bedroom slide out to replace the floor?

Answer
Hi Peter, Sorry about the delay. I was out of town. To remove the side, the inside "Horseshoe" must be removed. That is the molding around slide. Once you remove it you will run the room out to the edge and then stop! Just before the room drops you will build blocks to support the room. Set the blocks on top of the slide rams. The next step is to see if the room will extend far enough to clear the edge. If not you will have to back off the slide stops. This may evolve removing the belly pan to gain access. The rams may also run over the top of holding tanks. If that is the case you will have to remove them as well. Once the slide is clear. You will have to figure a way to replace the floor, a section at a time while safely supporting the room. This is a huge job. You can be injured on killed if you don't take the proper steps to support the room. I can't advise you on how to best do it without seeing the project first hand. If you are at all uncomfortable doing this then I would advise you to take it to a shop. Good Luck.
