RV Repair: Rubber Roof, air bubbles, rubber roof

Question
Sir,

I have a 2004 Dutchmen Sport Lite.  I have the same problem that you have answered in a previous e-mail dated 6/25/2005.  Called the dealer and got the same answers as the gentleman with the same problem I have.  That it was "normal".
A year later, I took it in for a roof insp.  I got some bad news back from them.  They said it would take $5000 to fix.  That included everything labor & parts.
Now $5000 is a huge chunk of money that we can not put out right now.  I would like to know if there is a fix to this problem that I can do.  Thank you for any info that you can give us.

Answer
It's normal for a rubber roof to have some air bubbles in it, but not to leak. You don't say what is the matter with your roof. It sounds like it has been leaking for quite some time. You must have me confused with another "expert", beacause I have only been doing this about 5-6 months.
That seems high for a rubber roof job. Unless they are replacing all of the decking, rubber, and possibly some of the rafters. The only way they would have to replace rafters is if they are wood, and not aluminum.
It depends on what needs to be done, whether you can do it yourself.
Let me know in a followup what the problem is, and then I can tell you a little more.
Thanks,
Dave
