RV Repair: Electrical Problems, fifth wheel trailer, volt appliances

Question
We have a 1992 Prowler Fifth Wheel Trailer 25.5 ft.  It was plugged in to shore power last week and the alarm started to go off continuously.  We unplugged from hydro and it continued to go off, so we disconnected the fully charged battery.
Now in preparation for vacation we plugged it in to hydro and the lights and air conditioning will not work but the microwave clock is on.
On hooking back up to battery power, the lights came on very dim. Help

Answer
Hi Mickee:

The first thing you will need to do is get a voltage test meter, go the the source where the power comes into your circuit breaker panel, and check there for 110 voltage. If voltage is ok, check all the breakers, and reset any that are tripped. If all of the above checks out ok, your 110 volt appliances should be working again.

Next we will check out the 12 volt system. With your test meter, set it for 12 volt (or higher) dc range. check the voltage across the post on the coach battery. It should be somewhere between 14 to 12 volts.

Regarding the light staying on in the microwave when the battery and shore power are turned off, the only thing I can think of is that it may have an internal circuit that will store power for a short period of time without loosing its time and programmed settings.

If I can further assist you, please let me know, and if you get a chance, let me know how your made out with this project.
