We bought a 1994 prowler travel trailer.  The roof top crank up tv antenna does not work.  How do we determine what is wrong and what needs to be replaced?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Where do we start?  This is our first travel trailer.  Thanks

This is not a very hard repair depending on the problem, if the antenna is a Skyliner then you can buy seperate gears for it. If it is a Winegard then the parts are even more readily available. Find the brand and then look for the brand name on Google.com.
The first thing to look for is anything causing a bind on the antenna such as,
1. Cable tangled in the arms
2. Limbs or trash in the mechanism
3. Look in the gear area by removing the casing and check   for dried grease or trash
4. Make sure the arms are not bent and putting a bind on the crank

Thanks for the info.  I should have told you that the antenna goes up but we do not get a signal to the tv.  Rotating the antenna does not improve the snowy picture.  Sorry I don't know much at all about receiving a good tv signal.  They want alot of money to look at it at the rv store, somewhere around $100-$150(not including parts and labor).  I would highly recommend your site to everyone I know.  Again thanks for the help.

Thanks, for the compliments.
In this case you can check the connection at the box. I assume you have an outlet on the wall for the antenna. It should be similar to an elct outlet. Pull that cover off and check the connection. You will also need to check it on the roof and make sure it is not crimped or tore. If all looks good then you will have to get a meter and check continuity betwen the two ends. and if you have a cable connected between the antenna output on the wall and the tv try replacing it first. Hope this helps..
