Saturn Repair: 96 Saturn Clutch, kinds of sensors, clutch assembly

QUESTION: i have a 96 Saturn SL2 DOHC with 148,000 miles
its not allowing me to shift gears  
and if it is running in neutral with the park brake off it will start moving forward, i have checked the master cylinder and it is full, so I'm pretty sure that the clutch assembly has gone south for the winter, namely the pressure plate, what i am having a problem with is how do i get the engine out of the car so that i may replace the clutch? i have read through the repair manual and it really does not cover this, only the clutch alinement.

ANSWER: Hi douglas

It is a lengthy process to remove the engine, but an easy one.  3 things to remember, one, disconnect all wiring, second, remove fuel supply, and third remove mounts, (this includes bolts that mount trans to engine. but when you are ready to take engine out, after all has been disconnected, while pulling engine out, be careful not to catch intake manifold and associated components on the firewall, or else you will be buying all kinds of sensors lol...........

also if you need to, go to a part store and see if they have a book on saturn engine removal......it would be easier than me typing a 30 page book on here.......but if you have any special questions   feel free to contact me ....I will be more than happy to help ok

QUESTION: wow! thanks for the fast responce,
here is were I'm at, i have everything disconnected from the engine including all sensors, i have taken out the Alternator, Starter, Radiator, inspection plate, transmission reinforcement plate and have disconnected and pulled back the power steering pump and air condoning compressor. I have removed the top motor mount and have the engine on a hoist with tension. I have removed the lower engine mount bolt and have removed the all 6 transmission bolts, I have the transmission supported with a jack, but I only seem to be getting ¼ to ½ separation and have not been able to get the engine free, only thing I can think of is that I may be hanging up on the guide bolts but I’m not for sure. Any help would be appreciated.
 Also I have a repair manual and have checked into engine specific manuals with no luck

Hey Douglas

Did you get all of the mounts, upper mount on engine, the mount just under the crank pulley? If so, then take a pry bar and seperate the engine and trans.......sometimes they are hard to seperate due to years of dirt and heat....keep prying they will seperate.
