Saturn Repair: Problem with master cylinder?, saturn ls, return spring

Question
My wife and I have a 2001 Saturn LS. When the brake petal is pressed, there is a spring noise (boing-boing-boing) that can be hear towards the front of the car. This happens only when moving (quiet when stopped anbd brakes are pressed). Please note that there is no problem stopping although I am not sure of the front and back are brakes are both working.    I looked under the car, took the wheels off and inspected the brakes but did not find anything unusual. Is it possible that the master cylinder is making this noise? Is it tough to replace myself?

Answer
Joe,
If I were you, I'd look at the brake return spring.  It is located at the top of the brake pedal.  I have heard that noise comming from the return spring before.  I have never heard a master cylinder make a boing-boing noise.  I won't say that it's impossible, but I've never heard it.  If that doesn't work write me back.  We can get to the bottom of this.
