Saturn Repair: I push the brake pedal, but it wont brake until it is pushed all the way down., 2001 saturn sc2, hydraulic brake fluid

I have a 2001 Saturn sc2 3door coupe. We were driving it when the brakes suddenly would not work until the pedal was pushed completely to the floor of the vehicle. The brake fluid was empty, but when we put more into it, the volume showed half of the amount we replaced after just a minutes drive. This has never happened before.

 You need to find a repair shop quick.  Tell them your sitation.  You probably have a brake fluid leak.  They don't normally happen, but if it is happening, you need to find it.  The reason that your pedal went all the way to the floor is that the Master Cylinder was trying to compress air instead of hydraulic (brake) fluid.  You could have a faulty master cylinder.  At any rate, you need to have your vehicle looked at.  Not stopping is no fun.
