Saturn Repair: engine, low gears, saturn sl2

Question
I own a 1995 Saturn SL2 (It's a stick) and I've been having problems with
accelerating, especially in the low gears. The car stutters and jerks and is
sputtering like a 70's volkswagon. Sometimes the car will stall when I put it in
neutral and coast to a stop. I had the alternator fixed lately but that was (I
believe) unrelated. I feel like this is either a computer chip problem or maybe a
cadilatic (sp) converter problem. What do you think?

Answer
Jeremy,
I would lean more towards a misfire, caused possibly by plugs, wires or the ignition coil.  Catylitic converters usually cause a misfire/sluggish engine at higher speeds (or heavier loads like a hard acceleration).  Make sure that your plug wires are on correctly (on the ignition coil from L to R it should be 4-1-2-3).  If they are old, you might want to think about replacing them, and the plugs too.  However, don't buy those expensive Bosch plugs, they don't work in your engine.  If you buy anything from the dealer, make sure it's your plugs, and get the wires there too if you can.  I have not found a suitable aftermarket replacement as of yet.  Anyway, check that stuff and let me know.
