Saturn Repair: Saturn SL2 1992 wont start, engine coolant, replacement cables

Question
Hi Greg,

I have a Staurn SL2 1992 sedan. The car started yesterday and today it started and after few moments it stopped. I tried restarting but it won't start. I checked the engine coolant, the level was low so I filled it with engine coolant and try to start still it won't start. I tried jump starting too thinking that battery was down still it won't start. What could be the problem. For past two days it was really cold over here.

Answer
Hi ervin,
This is common, unfortunately.  People have tried every thing except the one thing that usually fixes the problem:
The Battery Cables have become so corroded (inside the outer jacket) that they no longer supply enough juice to the Starter. Also, it prevents thethe car from getting a good charge from the alternator so the battery never gets a good charge and that is harmful to the battery...it has been running with a less than full charge, more than likely.
I know it sounds so simple BUT it has been the culprit on over 10 cars for people who have asked me that question on All Experts so far!  It isn't 100% the problem but isthe best place to start asthe replacement cables are about $15 for both positive and negative from an auto parts store.  Make sure you get them long enough but not TOO Long.  They are not too hard to replace.
Best of Luck with it.
Sincerely,
Greg Moore
