Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S generator burning oil

Good Morning,
We have a B&S Elite Series 7000 watt generator, Model #030470, with a little over 6000 usage hours. It's recently started burning oil. It's not smoking while running - what could be causing this and any recommendations for fixing it?

Is the oil thin, runny and/or smell like gasoline?

What weight oil are you using?

6,000 is a lot of hours...the rings and/or piston may be wore causing it to burn oil.  Have you performed a cylinder leakdown test to check the condition of the internal engine parts?
