Auto Parts: Starter, gmc sonoma, chevrolet gmc

Question
How would I troubleshoot my Starter motor on a 2000 Chevrolet GMC Sonoma?

Answer
You always want to start with checking the battery, cables, and connections. After that, with vehicle in park( manual trans in neutral and wheels blocked) turn key to on position. You should have power to the large wire at the starter. With a friend holding the key in the start position you should have power to the small wire leading to the solenoid and the large one. If you don't have power during any of these it is time to start checking the power source.(fuses, breaks in wires, ignition switch).
