Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro 524 Skid Shoes Adjustment

Question
I have a Toro 524/38040 Snow Thrower and I need to adjust the skid shoe height. It states to measure from the auger to the ground but it has a scraper bar that is spring loaded. Don't I  measure from the bottom of the scraper to the ground and it should be I think 1/8 of an inch gap. If I measure from the auger, the scraper bar still touches the ground first being spring loaded. I need your help!!!!     Thank You; Vick

Answer
If you have a very smooth, level area that you remove snow from I would follow Toro's recommendation.

However, I live in the real world with gaps and uneven sidewalk transitions.  I would set the skid shoes about 1/8 of an inch higher than the scraper bar like you described in order to extend the life of the scraper bar.
