Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): no spark on briggs motor

I have an old portable generaton with a briggs 6hp engine.  I have not used it for several years. when tried to start, found no spark. replaced the magneto with new one and tried, still no spart.  My question is (a)could it be the gap of the mag on the flywheel (don't know what is correct, but tried many positions to no avail)? or (b) could the flywheel which appears slightly rusty be the issue?

Rust has little, if any impact on the ignition system.

Is there a mark on the ignition module that says "This side up"?

What is the engine model, type and code number?

What was the part number for the replacement coil you purchased?
