Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ignition issues with a Scag STT61V-35BVAC-SS, starter solenoid, failure issues

Question
I have a SCAG that is giving me fits over start failure issues. it has always been an intermittent issue that I thought was just a glitch in the machine. Safety switch in the seat etc...But after sitting for 3 months during winter it will now just click when the key is engaged but not turn the starter over. I can bypass the ignition switch by direct contact on the starter and the motor turns over...Please help

Answer
How many small wires are connected to the starter solenoid?  I would start by running another wire right beside the small solenoid wire.  Connect the end of the new wire to the same place as the current wire.  Leave both in place.  I've seen some of the larger mowers have trouble by not suppling enough power to the solenoid when trying to start.  Add another wire and it provides more current capacity.

Make sure you dis-connect and clean the battery terminals and battery cable ends with wirebrush.  Re-connect once cleaned...fixed a lot of starting problems just by cleaning the connections.

Let me know if running another wire helps the starting problem.
