Hello,I had a cord get caught in the blades and want to try to bend the auger axle back, if not I will replace it. How do I take the left side axle off? Also the replacement if needed would be the 26 inch axel? Thanks Mark

Answer
MTD 711-04284 Axle, Auger, 26"

To replace the auger axle you will have to remove the entire blower assembly from the machine.  Once removed, you should be able to remove the augers by removing the shear pins and the augers should slide off the axle.

It is a pretty labor intensive job to replace the axle, a solid 2-3 hours in the the shop with air tools.  At home, with hand tools it will probably take 4-7 hours to complete the job.  Take lots of digital pictures and make sure you make the right and left side augers.

I would not recommend straightening the axle unless you have a press, v blocks and a dial indicator to measure axle run out.  A bent shaft can vibrate really bad and will wear numerous other parts to the point of failure.
