Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton, briggs stratton, blue spark

Question
Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton, briggs stratton, blue spark
Contact point
Ben,
I'm working on a Briggs model- #12F702, Type-0714.
It's not firing. I pulled the cowl and cleaned/sanded the contact area of the magneto and the flywheel....it was rusty and dirty, but all is nice and clean now. It's still not firing.
I noticed the last time I used the mower, it killed when I was cutting close to some dwarf azaleas. I believe a limb could possibly have bent the auto kill mechanism on side of the engine. I studied the mechanics of this auto kill system and I don't understand the contact scenario. When I pull the kill lever on the handle bar back to the crank position on the mower, the pad comes away from the flywheel, as it appears it should, but there is a sliding contact point where the wire from the magneto and the kill mechanism connect that is sliding but maintaining contact. Is the magneto supposed to stay in contact at this junction or should the sliding contact move free of the magneto connection?

The pad is the engine brake, this stops the engine quickly so the blade stops to prevent injury. Are you getting spark? To check a coil is to get a spark plug tester,If you dont have one then you can remove the spark plug and set the plug against the engine  while it is still hooked up to the coil. Start the engine and see if you have a bright blue spark from the plug to the engine metal. If you have spark the coil is good if not, then it is bad.Now it also like you said can be the kill wire what you can do is remove the kill wire from the coil then try to start it with out the plug in you do not want it to start you just want to check again for spark. We sell coils as we are a B&S Authorized service center We can get you one for $33.99 plus shipping.
Thanks
