Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): KAWASAKI FD750 ENGINE, head gaskets, speed jet

Question
I HAVE A KAWASAKI FD750 ENGINE THAT I PUT ON A LOG SPLITTER THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT AFTER RUNNING THE MOTOR FOR A FEW MINUTES THE EXHAUST GETS RED HOT IT ACTUALLY GLOWS WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS THE ENGINE SEEMS TO RUN FINE I HAVE CHECKED THE ENGINE WITH A THERMO GUN AND THE ENGINE TEMPS SEEM NORMAL

Answer
Try adjusting the high speed jet on the bottom side of the carb and adjusting the idle air mix on the side of the carb. Your engine may be running lean.  You also can adjust the air/fuel mix by holding the throttle at idle and adjust the mixture.  The high speed can be adjusted at normal running speed.

If richening the fuel mix does not solve the problem, I would check the intake and head gaskets. Last item to check is the valves.  If they adjusted incorrectly the engine may run too hot.
