Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): wont start at full throttle, throttle linkage, carbuerator

Question
I was given a 19 year old Ariens 932 series snow blower that has sat idle for 10 years. It looks to be in great shape. I started it in October and it ran fine, changed oil a couple weeks later and it ran fine again. Then a month later, a week after being exposed to rain, it wouldn't start. I finally discovered it would start by slowly moving the throttle off of the fast/start position quite a bit. Moving it up higher kills the engine. I've added a little Sta-bil to the gas and some STP gas treatment in hopes of cleaning the carbuerator. That hasn't helped nor has cleaning the spark plug. The engine is a Tecumseh 9.05 Snow King Any suggestions?

Answer
Very common problem.  Cleaning the carburetor with compressed air from an air compressor usually solves the problem.  I would also drain all the gas from the fuel tank and blow it out with compressed air.

The carb is pretty simple to remove and clean.  Pay attention to the throttle linkage...take some pictures before and during carb removal.

Carburetor dis-assembly it pretty straight forward.  Removing the carb float bowl nut on the bottom of the carb will allow access to the float bowl and main internal carb parts.  Blow compressed air through all the carb passages/holes.

In a pich, you can try draining the float bowl by removing the float bowl nut.

Let me know if cleaning the carb and fuel tank solves the problem.
