hi how are you, i have a 5 HP Briggs and Stratton engine that had a stuck intake valve. I un seized the valve cleaned and polished the valve and slave. I also lapped the valve. some one ran mixed gas in the engine and the gas turned to turpentine I cleaned out the gas tank the engine will run if i put gas in the cylinder or into the carburetor but does not run from the tank. should i change the diaphragm in the carburetor when i clean it.

Sounds like the carburetor is messed up due to the mix of fuel & oil, I would take the carburetor apart and install a rebuild kit,you just don't want to replace just a few parts. You may develop other problems later down the road then.I would also clean the tank remove it and use hot soapy water then let it dry.
