Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine horsepower, engine horsepower, rpms

Question
what is the difference between hp and tp when looking for a replacement engine.

Answer
Horsepower is calculated as torque x rpm divided by 5,252. That means today's engines rated at 6.75 TP have a horsepower of 3.93. By the way, if you're keeping track at home, the rpms are set at 3,060 to get to the TP rating, at least that's what it says on the engine label.
