Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler ch20, reed valve, head gasket

Question
Hi Ben,
I have a Kohler ch20, serial number 2532101787. The family is skh624u1g2ra.
Im having trouble using excessive oil. Number one cylinder, I pulled the head and replaced the head gasket, I checked the valves and guides. I put it back together and no change. Should I replace the whole entire head, or could it be a reed valve problem? If you could please tell me how to check the head properly. Im frustrated and about Ready to burn my mower.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

Allot of times you need to do a compression test and a leak down test that will tell you where a leak is if any. It may getting by the pistons,or the reed valve is not doing the job.I wouldn't replace the head unless you know for certain that it may have gotten to hot and warped. To check the head you will to pull it and check that it is flat and the gaskets fit right.you may have to bring it to a shop if it is warped, to have them shave the difference.I would say it might be getting by the rings.
