4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Scheduled Maintenance, good shape, major component

Question
I was wondering if it was really necessary to keep up with the scheduled maintenance with my vehicle or should I wait till somthing goes wrong before I replace it.  My concern is spending money on somthing that really doesn't need to be replaced.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
My personal opinion has always been that scheduled maintenance is like insurance.  The maker of your vehicle knows what is needed to keep the vehicle in good shape.  While many people NEVER do scheduled maintenance and have no probolems, this is the exception rather than the rule.  What you spend on years of maintenance would be much less than replacing a transmission, motor or other major component.  Best of luck, Bud
