Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler Magnum 12hp fuel pump, electric fuel pumps, electric fuel pump

Question
Good Morning John,

I am in the process of starting my own mobile tire business. My father is in the tire business and has given me some equipment to get me started. He gave me an air compressor with a 12 hp Kohler Magnum engine the had been sitting unused in the back of his shop for at least five years. He had the Warlbro adjustable jet carb rebuilt before he gave it to me. The rebuilder did not set the low/high idle fuel trim setting so it was necessary to do that when I got it. I changed the oil in both units. Detergent straight 30 in the motor and non-detergent straight 30 in the compressor. I started it up and it ran pretty well. Yesterday I unintentionally ran it out of gas and the engine of course stalled. Upon refuel, I now have a crank no start condition. There is fuel in the line from the tank to the fuel pump, however there is no fuel in the line from the pump to the carb. The engine will start with a shot of throttle body cleaner into the carb. Before I go buy a new fuel pump I thought I'd ask if that sounded like the right solution, or if I needed to perform further diagnostics.

Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hello and Good Morning to you Linwood:

>>Change the Spring Style Clamps to the Screw Style Hose Clamps.
>>Change Any Hoses that are Cracked.
>>Remove the Fuel Line from the Carburetor Inlet Port and Turn the Engine Over until Gas is coming Out the Hose; then Reconnect the Hose to the Inlet Port and Try to Run the Engine.
>>If this Does Not Correct the Problem, then
>>Purchase a Rebuild Kit for the Fuel Pump, Purchase a New Pump or Replace the Manual Fuel Pump with an Electric Fuel Pump (4 to 6 psi or Less).
>>Mr Gasket (Mr Gasket Part Number 12S) makes 1 that I use All the Time when Changing from Mechanical to Electric Fuel Pumps on Most Lawn Equipment.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
