Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 311777 engine will not start, ill look, electrical problem

Question
I read John’s answer about B&S 311777 engine not starting and I have question regarding my problem.
B&S 311777-149E1 17HP engine on Troy-Bilt riding mower (13AD609G063), doesn’t start anymore. I’ve got mower as a project (deck removed) and after servicing engine started right away – I’ve replaced the driving belts (removed PTO clutch etc) and mower started well and started driving. In my excitement I drove it in rain through the puddles for few minutes… at the end engine run rough… next day wouldn’t start. I didn’t have time to pull the plug etc, but…
Where to start? I didn’t quite understand your description of the cut off wire and switch, where is this and what is the purpose? Is there a manual for the engine available online?
I understand that is (99%) electrical problem and possibly just a wet connection. Could it be burn out electric module or/and coil? I’ll look at this in next couple of days and would report back
Thanks.

The cut off wire and switch is the means to shut the engine off. How it works the switch has 1 wire to the ground and the other wire goes to the magneto or as you call it electric module. getting the engine wet and it runs rough is be cause you got water either near the magneto or near the spark plugs. That would cause the engine to run bad because water is a good conductor, let it dry out and when it does it should be fine.
