Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton Ignition Armature Air Gaps, briggs stratton, air gaps

Question
Briggs & Stratton Armature Air Gap on my 5hp outboard
If I set the gap on the magnet at .12 would it make it run at high rpm's like it's on the rev limiter?

Thanks

Answer
Hello Claude:

>>Setting the Coil Closer or Farther Away from the Flywheel Increases and Decreases the Current that goes to the Spark Plug, which makes the Plug have a Blue Spark (Hot)or a Lighter Orange/Red Spark (Cold).
>>Most Small Engines are Limited in Rev's by an External or Internal Governor that Limits the High End RPM's of the Engine.
>>If the Engine is Starting and Idling Correctly, then Check the Linkage from the Carburetor to the Governor Arm for Binding or being Bent.
>>Send me the Model Numbers Off the Unit, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you.
>>Thanks.
