Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs wiring, engine model type, pink wire

Question
QUESTION: I have a Lawnboy Zero turn mower that "had" a 16hp Briggs Intek engine in it. The motor blew up and I replaced it with a 20HP I/C Platinum Intek Craftsman motor that I picked up cheap. After much tinkering drilling new mount holes etc. I have a major wiring problem. There are 2 connectors that come off the "new" engine. One connector has a red wire which is 12v dc and black wire which is 12v ac. The other connector has a gray wire for the fuel shut off and a black wire for the kill switch. I don't have any idea where to run these wires into the old wiring. The wires on the old motor were a pink wire and white wire in one connector and a single purple wire. I'm not too bad with mechanical and fabricating but I suck at wiring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: The fuel shut-off needs to have 12 volts DC when the key is in the run position.  Just use a test light or voltmeter to find a power source when the key is in the run position.  The kill wire just connects to the "G" terminal on the ignition switch.  When you turn the key off the primary coil voltage is shorted to ground thus killing the spark.

Do you have the Lawnboy model number located on the Lawnboy sticker?  You use the model number on Toro's website to see if they have a wiring schematic for your mower.

Another good link for wiring can be found here:

Click on the "Engine/Alternator Replacement Guide" to access the link.

Let me know the Lawnboy model number and both engine model, type and code numbers so I can look up the information on your equipment.

QUESTION: Thanks so much for your quick reply. The numbers on the original single cylinder engine are as follows:
Model 286H77
Type 0165E1
Code 041230ZD

On the newer 2 cylinder these are the numbers I got... they might not be accurate as they were very hard to read
Model 407777
Type 8121E1
Code 998429Y5
Although the newer engine is a Briggs motor it states that it was made exclusively for Craftsman. It's a 20hp OHV I/C Platinum Intek Turbo Cool.

Thanks so much, again, for your timely and helpful responses.

Answer
If you go to Toro's website you can download wiring schematics.  Go to   https://homeownersolutions.toro.com/portal/server.pt/community/product_center/225#manualsResultPage

Use this model number (74327) and see if it covers your mower.  Click on "Manuals" and then select "Toro Riding Products 2004-2005 Electrical Demystification Guide  [ English ]".  Make sure you select the correct model year.  Since your old engine was an 2004, I betting your mower is considered a 2005 model.  The manual has all the wiring color codes.

The 12 vDC is used to charge the battery and the AC is typically used for lights.  I do not see any lights on your mower so you do not need the AC wire.
