Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs Stratton 14.5 hp Model 282707 Type 1224-E1, briggs stratton, digital voltmeter

Question
I have replaced the dead battery and replaced the starter solenoid and spark plug. The carb is clean also. The mower will turn half a turn then stop. I removed the plug and it turns over fine. What could be the problem?

Has anything happened to this engine did it hit a rock, stump or anything else to cause the engine to stop suddenly? If I were you I'd check all the battery cable connections, even the ground connection to the frame. You can also check the voltage drop of the cables and solenoid. It doesn't take too much voltage drop to cause problems.
Take a digital voltmeter and set it to the DC Volts scale. Put one lead on the battery (-) terminal, and the other on the metal case of the starter. Try to crank the engine while noting the reading. Next put one lead on the battery (+) terminal and the other on the cable post on the starter. Crank the engine while noting the reading. A drop of more that 0.5 volts needs to be fixed. Often times the carb will leak causing gas to enter the crankcase, thinning the oil.  The thin oil will cause the engine to hydro lock. You may have to check the fly wheel key on the crank shaft to make sure it is not sheared.
