Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman GT5000 idle problem, craftsman gt5000, filter line

I am haveing a problem with this. The mower starts but it fluctuates/surges while running with choke off.If i pull out the choke about half way it seems to run smoother. I have had the 2 new carbs and the last rebuilt. it also seems to be running rich but dont know how to adjust. Modle # 917.276220

If you have replaced the carburetor already, I would suggest you check the fuel tank/filter/line. The condition you are describing is when the carburetor is starving for fuel. If all these are ok, you must have some contamination, possibly the fuel line deteriorating, causing the jet in the carburetor to become clogged causing the carburetor to call for more fuel. It is probably a fixed jet, and not adjustable.
