Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Scotts S1742 wont start, solenoids, intek


Question
Mr. Bridges,the tractor has a Briggs INTEK OHV Mod#311777 Type#0143-E1 and Code#991116ZE. I last used the lawn tractor about 3 weeks ago w/ no problems. It would not start today. Fuel had been in tractor since last summer. The fuel line from tank to filter was perforated (prob by mouse). I replaced fuel line, fuel and filter. I removed plug (less than 1 year old) but it looked good. I put plug back in boot and cranked engine-it had spark. I shot carb/choke cleaner in carb via air filter inlet and it started but promptly stopped once cleaner was expended. I made a mistake by disconnecting elec fitting under carb to check for current but did not pay attention to which way it had been connected. Not recalling which way I disconnected I found out that it could be connected either way-is the ground (black wire) to the right or left on the fitting under carb? Couldnt tell if the fuse was ok because dirt had gotten inside but the tractor briefly started as mentioned above w/ the fuse. Please advise next steps.  Thank you very much in advance.

>>**Check for Current/Voltage (10.5 VDC Minimum) to the Carburetor Shut Off Solenoid. If the Carburetor Shut Off Solenoid has Current, then On Some Solenoids you can Remove the Needle and Replace the Solenoid to Test them.

Wet the Sand Paper with Oil Until it is Flexible and then Lightly Polish the Pin. Clean and Lightly Oil the Pin before Inserting it Back into the Solenoid. Just a Film of Oil is All it Takes.**
