Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 14SB, transmission pulley, mower deck

Question
My JD lost the drive belt last year. How do I replace it? Thanks

Answer
Most of the sites are recommending removing the engine to replace the belt.  I usually remove the plastic cover, remove the belt from the transmission pulley and then feed the belt through the deck.  Some models may have a belt over under the deck.   If you have a belt cover you will have to remove it.

With the belt off the transmission pulley, you can feed the slack through the mower deck.  It will help to remove the blade but you don't have to.  You may also have to loosen or remove the belt guides.

If you determine you neet to remove the engine it is pretty easy...just remove the 4 engine mounting bolts.

I always remove the spark plug when working on the mower.  Also, be sure not to tilt the mower as oil can enter the carburetor and air filter.
