Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): leaking primer, self propelled mower, viton

Question
I have an Intec 6.75 OHV on a Snapper self propelled mower.  It has been sitting for about two years.  I put a little gas in the tank, primed it, and tried to start it.  It would fire up and run for about 5 seconds and die.  I noticed the red primer was leaking gas.  What does that indicate?  and does something need to be replaced?  Thanks.  tom

Answer
I'd start by removing, dis-assembling and cleaning the carb with compressed air from an air compressor.  While you have the carb apart, replace the inlet needle and seat.  Odds are the viton (rubberish) inlet needle seat is hard and brittle.  This is very common and causes the carb to leak and gas to run out of the primer or into the engine.

Lots of videos on You Tube showing how to clean carbs and replace the inlet needle.
