Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda ES6500 generator timing mark alignment, honda es6500, honda dealer

Question
Sir,

I have a Honda ES6500 generator that is backfiring through the carb %26 will not start.  The only number that I could find is:  EA1-1028004.  It is a 4 stroke 2 cyl OHC engine.  The cam sprocket has an "F" %26 "T" on it in two places.  The timing belt goes from the flywheel, around the cam sprocket,  and around another sprocket.  I'm not sure what the last sprocket is for.  I want to check the timing to see if the belt has jumped a tooth, but I don't know where or what the timing marks are lined up on.

V/R,
David

Answer
I have not personally worked on this engine, I can tell you however in 30 years of wrenching i have never seen a a timing belt jump.  (there is always the first time however...)

When is the last time u used your generator?  Have you drained the fuel and and refilled with fresh fuel.. also drain the carb bowl...

Drain the fuel, refill with fresh fuel and let me know what happens... in the mean time ill go visit my local honda dealer and get a glimpse of the service manual.  I suspect the 3rd sprocket is an oil pump gear...
