Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snow blower, spec numbers, welcome matt

Question
A neighbor gave me a snowblower after he ran over his welcome matt with it. He said it ran for a short time after this but shut off and wouldn't start. I tryed the pull start but its hard to pull so I didn't keep trying. All the belts had to be replaced after this. Any suggestions.

Answer
Hello Tony:

>>Remove the Spark Plug and Turn the Engine. If the Engine Turns Freely, then Remove the Flywheel and Check the Flywheel Key.
>>From your Description it Sounds like the Sudden Stop from Hitting the Mat damaged or Sheared the Flywheel Key. This Causes the Ign Timing to be Incorrect and the Spark Plug is Firing Out of Time. This is usually why the engine is hard to Pull with the Plug in.
>>If the Engine Pulls Hard with the Spark Plug Out, then Check for a Bent or Binding Component in the Drive System.
>>Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine and the Unit/Mower Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Engine Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. The Unit/Mower Model Numbers are Usually Located Under the Seat on a Sticker on the Body of the Mower.
