Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tecumseh 4hp snowblower dies, ariens snowblower, globaltek

Question
[tecumseh-HS40 55265 B / 922999] ~ [ariens snowblower 0169 02686 001043 ]  "Inherited" from old friend, early 80's ariens snowblower, showroom condition!  sat for long time, owner had friend tinker with it, couldn't get it running, he replaced points and coil/plug, still nothing. gave it to me and he bought a new one.  i tinkered with it and got it running great!  after about 20 minutes of use, it just "dies"  starts right back up a couple times, then sputters/ backfires under load ( engage auger and drive)after a while( cools_)  runs good again,  i am assuming that something is defective after is gets to running temp for a while. i found/followed all tecumseh manuals available online and got carb set nice, runs smooth at low and high idle! the only thing i didnt do is clean inside of gas tank.  I ruled that out because the gas lines were replaced and i installed an inline filter.  the stalling after 20 minutes is consistant, no other symptoms. it has done this several times. after i let is cool down, it runs fine again for another 20 or so minutes!
i am a total do it yourselfer and am determined to get this figured out! thank you for any advice/information you may provide to me.  Happy Holidays!
Thank you,
mark, Hamilton twp, central new jersey ( yes, just got hit with the big snow storm!  about 15 inches! )

Answer
We better get this problem fixed... lets loosen the gas cap and see if the problem still continues.  IF it goes away, replace the fuel cap as we have a venting problem.  Make sure you have an OEM fuel cap on it.

When it quits, immediately remove the spark plug and test for spark.  If you have no spark replace the ignition module.  This should resolve your problem

Good Luck from a fellow New Yorker!

Let me know how it works for ya!
