Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): AMF Snow Blower with Tecumseh Engine, snow blowers, dusty environments

Question
QUESTION: How do I find information on older engines and snow blowers.  I bought an old machine;
AMF 1360-1000
Tecumseh H60-3455

It runs, but needs some attention. I'd like to find breakdowns and/or parts info.  Thank you

ANSWER: Tecumseh parts can be found online:

What parts are you needing for the blower?  Many parts are available and you can usually fit other parts with minor modifications.

Let me know.

QUESTION: my first mission is to change all the oil.  I assume i can use 5w30 in the engine (is that a safe assumption?).  I'm wondering about the gearboxes.  Is that a 90w gear oil?

It needs a muffler and air cleaner, but i think i can fab that ok.  I was hoping for a illustrated parts breakdown so i could tear into it a little (and know how to put it back).  I'd like to replace the ignition wire also.  thank you for the help

Answer
10W-30 is the usual recommendation.  I'd use 90W in the gear box but keep an eye on the fluid level.  New blowers use a really heavy grease along with some of the older blowers.

Fill with 90W, use but check often.  If you see it leaking or if the level will not stay full then the seals maybe leaking and you might have to go with the newer grease stuff.

No air filters on snowblowers unless you are using it as a sweeper.  An air filter will not hurt anything but is not necessary since blowers are rarely used in dusty environments.

Double check the engine spec number.  Either there is a digit missing or you have a really old engine.

If you need to replace the spark plug high tension lead you will have to buy a new coil as the wire is molded into the coil.  I'd get rid of the points no matter what and upgrade to an electronic ignition such as the Nova II module.  Cheap upgrade and never have to worry about points again.

Parts list for the blower will be difficult to find.  Check the antique tractor/engine sites and Ebay.  The most important part to clearly mark are the rakes (aguers).  There is a right and left side desinged to pull snow into the bucket.  If you put these on backwards it will push snow rather than pull it into the bucket.

A guy on Ebay is selling a Dynamark manual.   IF YOU DON'T SEE YOUR DYNAMARK MODEL NUMBER EMAIL ME AT billyjean18235aaa2yahoo.com AND I WILL CHECK TO SEE IF I HAVE IT.

Worth a shot to email him and see if he has a parts manual.
