Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Garden tractor will not go forward or backwards, transmission pulley, garden tractor

My Sears Garden tractor (917.275010) will not go forward or backwards. I heard a scraping noise and it just let go and went out of gear. Now, it won't go forward or backward. I checked the ground drive belt that goes to the Pulley Engine VGT elect clutch and it just spins freely.

If i understand you correctly, your saying that the belt is intact from the engine to the transmission correct?

If this is the case you have broken gears inside the transmission.

If memory serves me correctly you can get at this pulley on the transmission by removing the rear wheel.  turn the transmission pulley by hand and see if you feel any resistence... try putting your transmission in different gears and see if any change.  

I speculate you broke the main drive gear.  If your case is still good you MAY be able to get the transmission repaired, but be forewarned, many parts are hard to find for this transmission.
