Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): gas smell in oil, white smoke, oil residue, white smoke

B&S 15.5 OHV model #284707, type 1174-e1, code 980416Zd.  Not ready to give up on the motor as of yet, still starts, doesnt keep running, white smoke, fuel leaking also. Ive tinkered with engines, can I fix this easily and Cheaply?

Remove, dis-assemble and clean carb with compressed air from an air compressor and replace the inlet needle.

Drain/change and refill oil.

If you want you can remove the muffler and soak over night in parts cleaner to clean the oil residue.  This will reduce the smoking.

Can you check the model and type number again.  It looks fine but I keep getting a message from the Briggs website saying no parts lists can be found.
