Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 16 HP Briggs & Stratton Wont Start, briggs stratton, hp briggs

Question
I have an 1998 Ingersoll 4016 with a 16 HP Vanguard engine.  When I try to start it, it sounds and feels like the starter is spinning but not engaging the flywheel.  I have not had any problems starting until now.  It has about 220 hours.

Answer
Hi Dave
First thing is to check that the battery is fully charged. If the starter is spinning but not engaging the flywheel, the problem is going to be the starter. Remove the starter and have it checked. Most auto parts can check them and can tell you if it is bad. Hope this helps.
