Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Broken pull cord, engine cowling, tight line

Question
I have a Poulan Weed Eater lawn mower, B&S engine, about 12 years old.  The pull cord snapped.  Is it an easy fix or should it go to a shop? I'm fairly good with tools.  I did notice something that looked like rivets holding the cover on.

Answer
Hi Jeff
To replace the pull cord, you have to remove the engine cowling. Then take out what is remaining of the old cord. I then wind the spindle up tight, line up the holes and insert the new cord. Don't forget to attach the handle before you let it rewind back. Replace the cowling and you are good to go.
